About us

What are our beliefs about Technology at NIST?

The Empowered Use Agreement at NIST

Who are we, and what are we about?

We  are NIST PYP teachers and Digital Learning Coaches that want to empower the global community to comfortably use technology to connect, create and communicate. This is not just our job, but our passion.

EDTechFramework was started when teachers noticed that we needed a more articulated Digital Citizenship initiative at NIST. As good inquirers, we started the process by researching ISTE, Virginia SOLs, Common Sense Media, British Computing Standards, and the PYP IB scope and sequence to have a good understanding of digital citizenship and digital literacy for the 21st century. We then created an iterative phase document and gathered feedback from a global pool of educators, and those within our own NIST community in order to have it represent as many stakeholders as possible. The website, phases and mini lessons are designed to give inquiry-based educators a framework of choice when unpacking the strands with their learners.

Who is NIST?

The first and only full, not-for-profit IB World School in Thailand, NIST International School was established in 1992 with the guidance and support of the United Nations. The school now welcomes over 1,500 students of over 50 nationalities and provides all three International Baccalaureate programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP). NIST is governed by the Foundation for International Education and is accredited through the Council of International Schools (CIS) and New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).

We believe that technology is a powerful tool, one that allows us to connect with others around the globe. Our philosophy takes a positive view, one that encourages students to learn to use digital technology creatively, effectively and responsibly through four key principles:

  • Be empowered. Do awesome things. Share with us your ideas and what you can do. Amaze us.
  • Be respectful. Help foster a school community that is principled and caring.
  • Be smart and be safe. If you are uncertain, talk with us.
  • Be careful and gentle. Our resources are limited. Help us take care of our devices and networks.
